ABB ACS Drive Repair and Fault Assessment

New Start Energy supports the assessment and repair of ABB variable speed drives. If an ABB ACS drive has developed a fault, send the complete model code, serial number, power and current rating, supply voltage, application, displayed fault code and a description of what happened before the trip.

Photographs of the display, drive nameplate, panel layout and connected equipment can support the initial review. Include any available parameter backup, drawings, fault history and previous service information. Do not open live equipment, defeat interlocks or repeatedly reset a drive without understanding the cause.

A fault code is the start of the diagnosis

An ABB ACS fault message identifies a detected condition, but it may not establish the root cause. The assessment may need to consider the incoming supply, motor and cabling, cooling and contamination, control signals, communications, process conditions and the drive itself.

Agree the appropriate repair route

Depending on the fault evidence, equipment condition and agreed scope, the next step may involve on-site diagnosis, workshop assessment, a parts-availability check, parameter recovery, repair planning, replacement selection or temporary-drive suitability.
